Land Acknowledgment
Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA) acknowledge the First Nations, the Métis, Inuit, and all of the peoples across Alberta who share a history and a deep connection with this land. ATRA acknowledges members practice in Treaty 4, 6, 7, 8 and 10 territories throughout Alberta. We are all Treaty people.
ATRA dedicates the efforts of this health profession to move forward in partnership with Indigenous communities in the spirit of reconciliation and collaboration.
ATRA endorses the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Call to Action (2015). ATRA is committed to supporting First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples, sharing a common understanding of well-being and wellness as something that comes from a balance of body, mind, emotion and spirit.
Action Taken
- ATRA formed a ReconciliACTION Committee in January of 2025.
- The ReconciliACTION Committee was established because ATRA is committed to advancing the principles of truth and reconciliation.
- We acknowledge the painful history and enduring impacts of colonization, particularly on Indigenous communities, and recognize the importance of fostering healing, understanding, and meaningful change.
- Guided by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action, we are committed to learning from Indigenous knowledge, engaging in open and respectful dialogue, and building relationships grounded in respect, equity, and inclusion.
- ATRA strives to be an active participant in reconciliation, aspiring to create a future where all communities can thrive in dignity, understanding, and mutual respect.
